PLC AmeriCorps Fellow Named Class Rep for 2009-2010

Today, Equal Justice Works announced that Leigh Ferrin, Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Recovery Fellow at the Public Law Center, has been named one of three national Class Representitives for 2009-2010.

The EJW press release notes that "These roles were created in February in order to help Equal Justice Works manage the program and will be especially important with the program’s expansion for 2009-2010. These AmeriCorps Fellows were selected for their innovation and peer leadership."

During Leigh’s fellowship at PLC, she has focused on the two areas severely affected by the current economy: bankruptcy and homeownership. She has developed a bankruptcy clinic aimed at assisting low-income clients with their bankruptcy petitions and has expanded the organization’s services to homeowners facing foreclosure and loan modification scams.

Leigh also developed a partnership between PLC and the new University of California at Irvine School of Law to encourage and facilitate UCI students’ participation in public interest work. She loooks forward to continuing her direct legal services work and law student recruitment during the second year of the fellowship.
