Medical Legal Partnerships

PLC partners with health care providers to improve the health of low-income patients by assisting with their legal problems. These partnerships are known as medical-legal partnerships (MLPs), two of which focus on specific at-risk populations:

  • People living with HIV/AIDS
  • Families with infants 6 months and younger

Services

  • AIDS Legal Assistance Project (ALAP)

    • A partnership between PLC and Orange County Health Care Agency (OC HCA)
    • Founded in 1993, ALAP is OC’s only legal services program dedicated to assisting low-income people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Holistic legal assistance provided to low-income OC residents living with HIV/AIDS

  • Developmental Understanding and Legal Collaboration for Everyone (DULCE)

    • A partnership between PLC and CHOC Hospital
    • Holistic legal assistance to low-income OC families with infants 6 months and younger
    • Assistance with any issue within PLC’s scope of legal services
  • Hoag MLP

    • A partnership between PLC and Hoag Hospital
    • Biweekly legal clinics at the Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living in Newport Beach
    • Assistance with family law matters
  • St. Joseph MLP

    • A partnership between PLC and Providence/Mission/St. Joseph Hospital
    • Weekly legal clinics from 12-8 pm at family resource centers (FRCs) in Lake Forest (SOC FRC) and San Juan Capistrano (CHEC FRC)
    • Holistic legal assistance provided to low-income residents of South Orange County
    • Assistance with any issue within PLC’s scope of legal services
