PLC provides assistance to debtors filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy relief. We assist clients representing themselves in bankruptcy proceedings through clinics and consultation with attorneys. We also refer cases to volunteer attorneys who will represent Chapter 7 debtors for free from the beginning to the end of the case. In collaboration with the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA), PLC coordinates a clinic to assist anyone who is representing themselves in bankruptcy proceedings. We assist debtors (pre-filers and post-filers) and as well as creditors.

PLC does not provide representation or attorneys for Chapter 13 debtors, but can provide general legal information regarding the process. Chapter 13 debtors are encouraged to consult an attorney before preparing and filing a Chapter 13 petition and plan.

PLC and the OCBA also provide free legal assistance to debtors involved in reaffirmation proceedings. Some debtors enter into reaffirmation agreements without understanding the full ramifications of such an agreement and we provide information and guidance to these debtors before their court hearing.
